Near Goat Lakes along the Pacific Crest Trail, north
of Harts Pass.
Along the west edge of the Pasaytan are rugged mountains and canyons
along some of the most scenic Pacific Crest Trail hiking in the
northwest.
That is Powder Mountain in the center.
Packing the Pacific CrestTrail is sometimes dry and
hot work
and a pack llama appreciates a drink from a friend. Like real
good friends, Jim shares his water with Sahalie.
Read about this female pack llama in an article called, My new packing buddy,
in the BCL, 8-94 back
issue.

North Cascades - from the PCT, near the Canadian border
Pasayatan east
The Pasayten Wilderness is along the Canadian border and offers
llama packers many miles of trails to explore.
On the eastern half of this large wilderness are many very
large meadows.
The meadows are a delight to explore.
Lots of horsemen and hikers visit these areas, but there is
room for everyone.
On one trip that the BCL editor and family took, they experienced
a fierce and freak wind storm that blew over seventy trees across
the trail in one three-mile section.
In such cases it is good to have llamas that will follow the
handlers through brush, down and up steep sidehills, and. . .
. . . even through very narrow places. Our llamas
had to jump up and push their bodies through a very narrow space
between longs, stump and debris.
His first jump hit panniers on both sides and he bounced
back down the hill.
He had to be willing to go again and be helped.
